At Sunshine Nursery School we develop, and constantly evolve, our curriculum to best meet the needs of each of our students.
Small class sizes allow for hands-on attention each and every day.
Through interactive play, projects, stories, finger-play and songs children learn the social, emotional and academic skills they need to grow into wonderful and inquisitive individuals and to make the transition to Kindergarten a smooth one.
The 3-year-old class has a strong focus on learning and developing appropriate social interaction. Children grow from parallel play to cooperative play while working on sharing, listening, communication and conflict resolution skills. Daily projects allow students to develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills while learning colors, shapes and counting.
The 4-year-old class continues to work on the social interaction skills of the younger group, with the introduction of the alphabet, sequencing, and additional appropriate academic work to prepare them for the structured environment of Kindergarten.
There is no “failure” at Sunshine. All children learn at different speeds. We introduce concepts and reinforce skills and encourage students to continue to give their best effort, but there is no such thing as failing at Sunshine.
Both classes enjoy much supervised free-play and have “centers” available to them, such as puzzles, lacing cards, matching games and blocks. Each student will complete a project one-on-one with a teacher on a daily basis. Students enjoy listening to a story which focuses on the season, holiday, a specific social skill, etc. There is typically a finger-play or song that helps enhance the lesson during daily story time.
Snack time allows students an opportunity to socialize with one another while learning appropriate table habits that they will need in a cafeteria at school.
While we work on all of the above, all of the time, the most important thing is that the children are having *FUN*!!!! They make new friends, develop close relationships and have a great time doing it! That they are learning and developing new skills is really not something they even “know” they are doing, because the process for all of it is through fun and entertainment.
We hope that you trust this important stage of your child’s life to Sunshine Nursery School.
